In February 2014, the Ladner Leisure Centre ice arena suffered a catastrophic failure when the eastern façade wall assembly collapsed to the ground.  While no injuries were sustained, arena operations immediately ceased and the Corporation of Delta took emergency action to restore the arena.

TCPM was appointed to provide project management services to execute a super fast-track schedule to repair and upgrade the facility in time for the Vancouver Giants to resume their practices in September 2014.

The project scope included a seismic upgrade, cladding replacement, roofing replacement, chiller plant upgrade, dehumidification system replacement and new interior aesthetics (including ceiling and wall upgrades).

The design began in May 2014, tendering was completed June 2014, and the Giant’s practices resumed on time in September 2014.

In order to meet his super fast-tracked schedule, TCPM led the team to carefully select material types (e.g insulated pre-manufactured metal cladding) with short lead times and carefully structured the schedule to focus on critical activities (e.g. seismic retrofit work was split into two tenders to expedite the pre-cladding work).
