Surrey Arts Centre
TCPM acted as Owner’s Representative and Project Manager on behalf of the City of Surrey for the $7.5 million redevelopment and expansion of the Surrey Arts Centre. The project transformed the existing 52,000 sq. ft. facility through a 20,000 sq. ft. addition and 33,000 sq. ft. renovation, strengthening its role as the cultural hub for one of British Columbia’s fastest-growing communities.
The redevelopment included a new 129-seat studio theatre, expanded public amenities and lobby spaces, an enlarged art gallery, new public programming and education spaces, administrative offices, and a comprehensive seismic upgrade. The project also introduced modern theatre production systems, advanced communication and security infrastructure, and specialized environmental controls to support professional gallery operations and travelling exhibitions.
The redevelopment received the 2002/2003 IDI BC Award of Excellence and established one of Canada’s most advanced municipal arts facilities, combining a 450-seat playhouse theatre, a 129-seat studio theatre, professional gallery spaces, and visual arts programming under a single roof.
